How is words per minute calculated?
This test uses net WPM: it counts your correctly typed characters, divides by five (the standard definition of a "word"), then divides by the minutes elapsed. Mistakes you don't fix lower the result.
What does the accuracy score mean?
Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly out of everything you typed. Fixing mistakes with backspace as you go keeps it high.
Is my typing private?
Yes. The test runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to a server, stored, or tracked.
Most people speak faster than they type.
A typical adult types around 40 words per minute but speaks at roughly 150. Spiel turns that gap into time saved, transcribing your voice on your Mac and dropping the words where you're already writing.
